DEV is a vibrant software community – developers, from a wide variety of technology stacks, come to hang out, share and learn from each other on DEV.

With Uno Platform now providing contextual AI tooling, it was the perfect time to pair up with DEV. We challenged the DEV community to get creative building modern .NET apps with Uno Platform – the AI Challenge for Cross-platform Apps. Over 3 weeks, we saw some wonderful submissions from the developer community – it is time to declare the winners for the DEV.To Uno Platform Challenge. You ready?

Challenge Categories 💪

Uno Platform is the most flexible open-source platform for modern cross-platform .NET development, complete with enterprise-grade AI and visual design tools. Paired with Uno Platform Studio, .NET developers can get a serious boost in productivity with Hot Design visual designer with Hot Reload for fastest C#/XAML dev loop, dependable AI Agents/MCP tools and flexibility in technology stack – all towards building apps from any OS/IDE to run on mobile, web, desktop or embedded devices.

With latest Uno Platform updates and contextual AI tooling, .NET developer productivity is elevated – accordingly, developer challenge needed to be raised. The DEV Uno Platform Challenge had three categories of app submissions:

  • Wow Factor: Demanded modern .NET apps with stunning UI and creativity.
  • Hot Design Showcase: Demanded usage of Design Tools to iterate on UI design.
  • AI Acceleration: Demanded usage of AI Agentic flows with contextual MCP Tools.

The Prize Winners 🚀

Now, let’s get to what you all have been waiting for – the grand prize winners for the DEV Uno Platform Challenge. These were excellent submissions that showcased creativity with .NET, Uno Platform and AI, while showcasing the specific asks in each of Challenge categories. Behold – and the winners are:

Wow Factor: Interactive Bento Grid Portfolio

Varshith V Hegde created Portfolio – an interactive Bento Grid experience. The app transforms a traditional portfolio into an immersive digital experience – instead of boring static cards, there are 11 unique micro-experiences arranged in a modern Bento Grid layout. Each card is a fully interactive world: a 3D room you can spin with physics-based momentum, a playable space shooter game, a radar chart that tilts like a gyroscope, and even an organic morphing blob that runs away from the cursor.

Portfolio is a true cross-platform Uno Platform app powered from a single shared codebase and exudes plenty of Wow in the UI – parallax layers, particle and glow effects, 3D tilt/morph, matrix rain and plenty of physics with 60fps rendering across target platforms.

Hot Design Showcase: Bunny Brew Café

Sujan Koirala created Bunny Brew Café – an interactive virtual pet experience where a charming barista bunny serves coffee in a cozy café setting. The app combines the joy of virtual pet interactions with a delightful coffee shop theme, with nteractive coffee menu cards, particle effects and dynamic speech bubbles.

Bunny Brew Café is an Uno Platform app with design perfected using Hot Design and Hot Design Agent – real-time UI refinement helped in dynamic GIF switching on interaction, carrot rain celebration effect and more. The app is a wonderful showcase of the iterative design process and leveraging AI assistance for visual UI polish.

AI Acceleration: WinAmp Revamp

Sébastien Lachance brought back 90’s nostalgia to recreate the classic and much beloved Winamp media player. The challenge was to create the compact complex WinAmp interface and detailed UI functionalities – all with purely AI.

The WinAmp revamp is now a cross-platform Uno Platform app created entirely with latest AI tooling – Uno Platform MCP servers and GitHub Copilot with GPT-5 Models. It is remarkable to see the WinAmp interface recreated with complete granularity, including AmpVisualizerControl, EqBandSliderControl and WaveOscilloscopeControl – all with expected rich animations. Aided by Uno Platform MCP tools and UI tweaking with Hot Design, the WinAmp revamp was created in a fraction of the time it would take with traditional UI building – a testament to the power of AI Agentic workflows powered by grounded MCP Tools.
